Portuondo Law Firm
ABOUT THE FIRM
Marisa Portuondo was raised in the Key Biscayne community of South Florida. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Portuondo graduated with a Master of Science degree from Florida International University’s College of Business and worked in the pharmaceutical field managing over $60 Million of pharmaceutical raw material in several worldwide locations. While attending the University of Miami School of Law, Ms. Portuondo completed two internships at the Third District Court of Appeal under Chief Judge Juan Ramirez, Jr. (retired) and a third internship in the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Felony Division.
Ms. Portuondo’s work focuses on business/commercial law, real estate matters, construction law, and property damage claims. Throughout her legal career, she has helped clients in various matters of all magnitudes. While she has had large successes including the successful negotiation of a multi-million dollar arbitration and recovering escrow deposits worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, she also enjoys working hand in hand with smaller business owners, guiding them to success through business consulting and contract drafting and negotiations.
Many business attorneys have never studied business nor owned a business and fail to see the effects that legal decisions can have on the bottom line. Ms. Portuondo, however, has worked in Corporate America, earned her graduate business degree, and has her own experience starting and successfully managing her own law firm. These experiences have developed an insider’s understanding of the complexity and impact that legal decisions have on her clients’ businesses. Her first-hand knowledge and experience drive the Firm’s legal and consulting services for businesses of all types and sizes. She has also worked on construction law matters on both the plaintiff and defense side for 10 years, allowing her to become well-versed in the negotiation of contractual agreements and disputes. Finally, prior to starting her own firm, Ms. Portuondo previously worked as outside counsel for various insurance companies, bringing a unique perspective to her current cases representing insureds on property damage claims.
A lifelong resident of Miami-Dade, she is actively involved in the community’s civic affairs. Marisa Portuondo is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks, reads, and writes some Portuguese. When she’s not winning cases, she spends quality time with her husband and son traveling, boating, diving, hiking, and enjoying nature.
